Living in Durham
Nicknamed "The City of Medicine" thanks, in part, to Duke University's world famous medical facilities, Durham presently enjoys a reputation for being one of the most cutting edge and entrepreneurial cities around. The city recently invested in revitalizing its downtown area, a historically rich part of the Triangle. The American Tobacco Historical Campus, once home to one of the largest tobacco companies in world, is now one of the largest renovation projects in Durham, North Carolina. Comprised of more than one million square feet, the campus will host numerous restaurants, businesses, condos, and apartments upon completion.
Several major shopping and cultural attractions make life in Durham, North Carolina exciting. The Durham Athletic Park, another landmark of downtown Durham, is home to the Durham Bulls, the minor league baseball team-turned-legend with the release of the movie Bull Durham(1988). Boutiques downtown and the recently constructed Southpoint Mall (one of USA Today’s “top-ten places to spend it all in one place”) offer more shopping than one could dream. And cultural institutions like the Carolina Theatre, which offers the annual Full Frame Documentary Film Festival among other theater and concerts, keep residents entertained throughout the year.
A diverse population inhabits a wide range of neighborhoods from Victorian homes and new condos downtown to established or new construction communities further out.
